Is it Time to Replace Your Legacy ERP System?

By 2016, heavily customized ERP implementations will be routinely referred to as “legacy ERP,” according to Gartner, Inc., an American analytical company. Gartner said that as alternatives to monolithic, on-premises ERP and enterprise applications continue to mature, CIOs and application leaders must take action to address the fast-approaching reality of “legacy ERP.”

Andy Kyte, vice president of Gartner said: “Early ERP adopters, particularly large enterprises in energy, manufacturing and distribution industries, are paying the penalty of a decade or more of excessive customization. Businesses looking to improve administration today can take advantage of lower costs, better functional fit and process flexibility offered by blending cloud applications with on-premises applications in what we now refer to as ‘postmodern ERP.”

We fully agree with that, and just would like to add that for small and midsize businesses there is no need to have anything on-premise at all – cloud ERP can manage all company needs.

Here below is an typical email, what we got from potential customer regarding their struggle between modern needs and a conservative approach.

Dear Mr. UX Manager,

Good day,

MRPEasy is a great platform, and to be more specific, after a long search over the internet, we did not find a better platform to work on, really, very user friendly, priced reasonably, great support, also the explanatory videos are well made.

However the reason behind not using it at the time being is not mine, it’s the top management, as i explained before to Mr. Marcus, the company is in the process of implementing Microsoft Dynamics GP, the implementation halted for a few reasons before, and overtime the project stops i initiate using MRPEasy to resume the project, that is why it got confusing at the end.

i apologize for any inconvenience, and you have to know that i do recommend MRP easy to everyone i know in the field, i will even use it when i start my own business soon, meanwhile don’t be surprised if there was another attempt to use it by our company, the company is newly acquired by the owner and there is a lot to be done concerning work organisation.

Thank you so much for your time reading this reply, i hope it was not very long.

best regards

Mohammed Ali

We are a passionate team dedicated to changing the reputation that ‘MRP systems are complex’, ‘difficult to use’, and ‘expensive’. A robust MRP system is essential for efficient production, but it doesn’t have to be so complex that the costs of implementing and operating it outweigh the benefits. We believe that an MRP system can be powerful, simple, and affordable.
